Eventing Grades and Classes

Grading System

In Ireland, competition horses are graded according to the amount of points that are won at Eventing Ireland events. Here are the competition grades:

Horse Points Classes that can be entered 
0 - 10 EI80, EI90, EI100, EI110
11 - 20 EI110, EI115
21 - 50 EI110(Open), EI115, EI115 (Open), EI115 (Advanced)
51 and above EI110(Open), EI115 (Open), EI115(Advanced), EI120

Horses with more than 10 points may compete at EI80, EI190 and EI100 as Hor Concours (HC) See Rule 3.20. 

The Classes

Points are gained according to the class that you compete in, and the placing which you achieve within the class. The National classes within Eventing Ireland are explained below and full details can be found in the Eventing Ireland Rule Book:

EI120 Classes

For horses with 51 points or more

EI115 Classes

EI115 (Advanced) 

  • Dressage and Show Jumping is advanced standard and x-country is intermediate standard. 
  • Intermediate points are awarded.

EI115 (Open)

  • Restricted to horses with 11 points and over 50 points
  • Run at Intermediate level

EI115

    • Restricted to horses with 11 - 50 points
    • Run at Intermediate level

    EI110 Classes

    EI110 (Open)
    • Run at EI110 level, open to all registered horses with 21 points 
    EI110, EI110J, EI110P, 
    • All run at EI110 Level

    EI110 Amateur

    Run at EI110 level, the athlete must be registered as an Amateur, over 21 years of age and not derive any income in any form from equestrian sports, to be eligible to enter.

    EI105 Class (105cm)

    • Opetn to athletes from their 14th birthday who are full or restricted members or those on day memberships only
    • Open to all registered horses

    EI100 CLASSES (100cm)

    EI100, EI100J, EI100P

    This class is run at EI100 level dressage, show jumping and cross country to a maximum of 100cm

    Restricted to horses without points. Prize money or prizes in kind may be awarded, but no points will be awarded in this class. Horses with 20 or more points will compete at Hor Concours.

    EI100 Amateur

    The rider must be registered as an Amateur and over 21 years of age and not derive any income in any form from equestrian sports.

    EI90 CLASSES (90cm)

    EI90

    This class is run at EI90 level dressage with show jumping and X-country height to a maximum of 90cm

    Open to any horse. Open to riders from the beginning of their 14th year who are fully paid up members. No points will be awarded. Horses with 20 or more points will compete at Hor Concours.

    EI90 Amateur

    The rider must be registered as an Amateur and over 21 years of age and not derive any income in any form from equestrian sports.

    EI90P

    Open to any pony over 5 years of age, minimum height 138cms. Open to riders from the beginning of their 12th year. No points will be awarded.

    EI80

    This class is an 80 cm class with EI90 level dressage.  Show jumping and X-country will be to a maximum height of 80cm.

    The EI80 class is open to both horses (aged 4 and above) and ponies (aged 5 and above).  Athletes from the year of their 12th birthday may compete in this class .  As this is an introductory class, day tickets are not required.  


    Please note underage athletes must complete a competency form and parental consent form and send to Head Office before any entries will be accepted.

    International Events

    International Events are also given a star rating according to their level of difficulty. There are specific qualifications that have to be obtained to compete at each level. Please see below the star ratings:

    Points

    In National competition, your horse earns points when you are placed in the class, or when you finish on your dressage score. Points are allocated as follows:
