Equine Influenza

Note from Head Office

Author: Alison Packman/Friday 8 February 2019/Categories: General News, Equines

Following the outbreak of Equine Influenza, Eventing Ireland would like to remind all horse owners that all horses and ponies must have an up-to-date vaccination history in their passports.  Best practice would be for a vaccination within the last 6 months.

Common sense applies regarding bio security measures, including not mixing vaccinated and unvaccinated animals.  Isolation of new arrivals to a yard is important.

It is particularly important for horses travelling from their stable to another location - unvaccinated horses are at greater risk of being infected and will be more severely affected.

In order to prevent the spread of the disease and to avoid the possibility that events are cancelled due to outbreaks, please ensure your vaccinations are up-to-date.  If in doubt - please contact your vet.

Below is a  flu update from the IEC, released on Friday 8 February. The update is aimed at providing practical information and advice for horse owners and can be downloaded below.  In addition the FEI has published a 'What You Need to Know Guide', please click HERE
