Forans Young Rider Series Concluding at Gurteen:
Note from Head Office
Posted in Archive 08/10/2010 15:31:47
There is just one leg left in the Foran's Young Rider Series, which will conclude at Gurteen College on Sunday 17 October, and the overall winner is still undecided.
Rebecca Dunlea riding her own 7 year old Cashelane Captain is currently lying first on 22 points. Rebecca has had a great year with a win and runner up in the Forans Young Rider Series, and most recently coming 6th and 3rd at Camphire International and Ballindenisk International CIC** events respectively.
Cara Nagle on Byrneskill Ruby is currently second on 13 points. Brian Morrison riding Captain Conquest is currently equal third with Katie McKenzie riding Phillipa, both on 12 points. With the winner of each leg being awarded 12 points, the competition really is still very much up for grabs.
2010 saw an increase in the number of horse/rider combinations taking part in this five leg series, aimed specifically at our talented 18-21 year old riders. One leg of the series was held in each region, but due to the unfortunate cancellation of Gurteen in June, the final leg was rescheduled to the date in October.
The overall series winner will receive a prize of €750 and the runner up €250 which will be used towards a training bursary courtesy of Foran Equine Products, the leading Irish manufacturer and suppliers of horse health care. Commandant Brian MacSweeney (HSI Junior/Young Rider International Coach) will approve the trainers to be used for the bursaries.
Gurteen will be unveiling a selection of new fences at the event, courtesy of new course designer Sam Deverell, and local organiser Jayne Powell has confirmed the event is ready to run.
