The 2025 Eventing Ireland National Championships will be held at Barnadown Equestrian, 4-5 October 2025.

Our showcase event will see the 2025 National Champions crowned at all levels from EI80 to EI110, and will incorporate the Grassroots Classes.

Millstreet International hosted the EI120 National Championship which was won by Patrick Whelan and Altitu.

The EI115 National Championship was held at Lisgarvan Intl and was won by Joseph Murphy and Barberstown Castle Rehy.

Qualification Criteria

To be eligible to enter the National Championships classes all horse/rider combinations MUST meet the following qualification criteria. (Please scroll down for the Grassroots Classes qualification criteria.)

EI80, EI90 classes, EI100 classes, EI110 (J), EI110 (P) and EI110 (Amateur)

Three MERs as a combination at an Eventing Ireland national event between June 2024 and September 2025. This may be either 3 completions at the class they will be entering or 2 completions at that class and one higher. (ie: 2 x EI90 and 1 x EI100)
One MER must be from 2025
The MERs are dressage minimum 55% good marks, no more than 16 SJ penalties and clear XC jumping penalties for each event.
Must be paid up members and horse registered

Grassroots Competitors

Eligibility for Grassroots Classes is as follows:

Two MERs as a combination at an Eventing Ireland national event between June 2024 and September 2025. This may be either 2 completions at the class they will be entering or 1 completion at that class and one higher. (ie: 1 x EI90 and 1 x EI100)
At least one MER must be from 2025
The MERs are dressage minimum 55% good marks, no more than 16 SJ penalties and clear XC jumping penalties for each event.
Any rider who has not completed more than two EI110s in the previous five years can enter – so if you did three EI110’s in 2020, or before, but haven’t competed at that level since, you’re eligible!
To compete in the EI80 Grassroots Championship, a combination must not have earned more than two MERs at EI100 in the previous two years, or may not have earned more than three MERs at EI90 in the previous year.
For the EI90 Grassroots Championship class, a combination must not have earned more than four MERs at EI100 level in the previous two years.
For the EI100 Grassroots Championship class, a combination must not have earned more than seven MERs at EI100 in the previous season.
For the EI100 Open Grassroots Championship class, a combination may have any number of MERs at EI100, but the rider must NOT have more than two MERs at EI110 level in the previous five years.
Any horse or pony that has not earned more than two MERs at or above EI110 is eligible for the regular Grassroots classes.
A horse must be minimum 148cm and 4 years old, and a pony must be minimum 138cm and 5 years old.
May compete on day membership and registration

If there are not sufficient entries to the Grassroots Classes for these to run as standalone classes, they will be amalgamated into the National Championship classes, but prizes will be awarded to the top six Grassroots competitors across the level.

Can an adult ride a pony?

Yes, an adult can ride a pony of 143cm or over.

What’s the minimum age for a rider?

Pony riders can compete from the year in which they turn 12. For a full breakdown of membership and class types, visit www.eventingireland.com/faq

Can I earn MERs from Training (T) classes?

The results of training classes are not kept on the system after the weekend, so you can’t use a result from a T class to qualify.

Close of Entries is 12pm noon Friday 26th September
Only paid up members and horses registered with Eventing Ireland can enter the National Championships Classes
Grassroots Competitors may enter Grassroots classes on day tickets
Anyone who has made an entry pending MERs which are subsequently not achieved will be refunded
STRICTLY NO REFUNDS AFTER CLOSE OF ENTRIES – including those with vet certs.
Onsite stabling and hookup prices to be confirmed
