The Board met online on Wednesday 18 June and the following is a summary of the meeting.
CLG Conversion
A revised draft Constitution was circulated to the Board and we are awaiting further advise before the document is circulated to the membership
Financial
The Board was advised that income is down compared to the same time last year, and this is due to the lack of events in the South at the start of the season.
This has also had a detrimental effect on memberships and registrations.
We will struggle to cover insurance costs this year and a review of insurance levies will be discussed at the end of the season.
The Board welcomed the event organisers ongoing efforts to strengthen venue standards with a review planned for year end on progress and shared goals
Medical and Veterinary Cover
Our Chief Medical Officer, Dr Mary Flannery, attended the Board meeting to stress the importance of correct medical cover at events and the need to re-introduce a medical officer or paramedic at cross country training events
Bridget McGing, Chief Veterinary Officer, confirmed that we have purchased a piece of apparatus (one for each region) to help an injured or trapped horse get back on its feet. These will be sent to the regions for use at EI events. The new Veterinary Committee will meet shortly.
Safety Stewards
There is still a shortage of Safety Stewards and an online training workshop chaired by Caroline Neville, our H&S expert will be held shortly,. More information will be shared shortly but we would very much like to see more officials at events.
Horse Sport Ireland
At its meeting with HSI on 26 May, we were advised that the 2 for 1 contribution deal regarding High Performance ceased at the end of 2024. HSI will continue to manage High Performance with funding from the Department but will not be expecting Eventing Ireland to contribute as it had in the past.
However, as part of Eventing Ireland’s commitment to High Performance, HSI has asked the Board to look at ways to encourage and retain owners up to the LA Olympics in 2028.
There is still no HP training for the youth athletes and the Board will continue to update members as this position evolves
