Treo Eile is pleased to announce a major increase in its support for Thoroughbreds competing within Eventing Ireland, unveiling a comprehensive investment package valued at €50,000 for the 2026 eventing season. This will include €25,000 from the Irish European Breeders Fund, in prize based incentives, and the remainder will cover subsidized fees for thoroughbreds in eventing. This expanded backing reflects Treo Eile’s ongoing commitment to promoting second-career opportunities for Thoroughbreds and recognising the breed’s growing presence in the sport.
The funding package will bolster multiple initiatives aimed at encouraging, supporting, and showcasing Thoroughbred participation nationwide. Key elements include:
- Registration Fee Support: Treo Eile will fund Thoroughbred registrations, providing a €55 discount/rebate per horse registered with Eventing Ireland.*
- Entry Fee Discounts: Thoroughbreds registered with Treo Eile will receive a 30% discount on entry fees, easing the financial burden for riders and owners throughout the season.
- Thoroughbred-Only National Classes: A series of dedicated Thoroughbred classes at national level will take place during the season.
- Thoroughbred Challenge at Ballindenisk: The popular Thoroughbred Challenge returns to Ballindenisk International in September, after the success of the 2025 edition..
- League Support: Treo Eile will also contribute €5,000 to the Eventing Ireland league, continuing its longstanding support for the series.
Niki Potterton, Eventing Ireland Chairman, welcomed the announcement, saying: “We are thrilled to be supporting Treo Eile in promoting Thoroughbred horses within Eventing. The number of Thoroughbreds in the sport has doubled in the last 5 years and we now have around 60 horses registered with us. The new initiatives announced by Treo Eile are a fantastic incentive to both producers and Thoroughbred owners. To be able to offer ex-racehorses a second career is a fantastic way to recognise a breed that excels in Eventing, and we applaud what Treo Eile is doing for the industry.”
Andrea Ryan, CEO of Treo Eile, added: “Our mission has always been to create meaningful second-career pathways for Thoroughbreds once they leave the racing world. Eventing continues to be a discipline where these horses truly shine. We are delighted to deepen our partnership with Eventing Ireland and to invest in initiatives that support riders, reward participation, and showcase the outstanding capabilities of the Thoroughbred.”
This increased collaboration between Treo Eile and Eventing Ireland marks an important step forward for the development of Thoroughbred sport horses in Ireland, ensuring greater accessibility, visibility, and opportunity for the breed at every level of the sport.
